LM5060 | Turn ON Switch into a short circuit to ground

Hi, here are my specifications:

VIN: 24V (batteries)

VOUT: No control of the load (RES./CAP./IND.) maximum output current 30A continuous.

The actual current limit is 184A for 2msec.

Mos: 2x IRFS7534

- If the switch is activated and the mosfet is full ON, then a capacitive load is apply (34000uF), the output is able to charge the capacitors without a fault condition. (current threshold is high enough

- If the switch is activated and the mosfet is full ON, then a short is apply (VOUT = GND), the mosfet is able to turn-off within the SOA limit.

- If a short is apply at the output then ENABLE is activated, how is it possible to protect the MOSFET ?

Is there any circuit that can be added to meet this requirement ?

Hello Alexandre,

The LM5060 provide the excellent over load protection but its response to the short circuit protection is slow.

If you can avoid the short circuit condition, we suggest to use application circuit in Figure 34. in the LM5060 data sheet.

Who is the customer, business potential and application for LM5060?

Hello Dinesh,

At this point I can't tell you the customer, but an estimated quantities per year is around 1000-1200. If we are able to work with the LM5060, we will be able to put this kind of circuit into almost all our product (quantities per year will be higher). We want a robust solid state switch.
