TPS2069C voltage drop with Sandisk USB memory

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2069C, TPS2051C

Hi,

Voltage droops in a moment when Sandisk USB memory is inserted and voltage drop exceeds customer application's tolerance.

Do you have an experiance like above case?

FYI, when customer uses current limit IC BD82032 from Rohm, voltage doesn't droop.

Difference between TPS2069C and BD82032 is package.

TPS2069C is 6 pin package and BD82032 is 8 pin package.

Thanks in advance.

  • David,

TPS2069C comes in either the DBV (5-pin SOT23 package) or DGN (8 pin MSOP with powerpad). Did you mean the customer is using the TPS2069CDBV?

The behavior difference could be related to thermal shutdown as the DBV package will heat up towards thermal shutdown more quickly than the ROHM MSOP8 package.

The other difference between the two parts is the overload response characteristic. The ROHM part uses an older technology with an OC threshold and then another "short circuit" threshold. TPS2069C has a single short circuit current limit characteristic. TPS2069C Ios is higher than both ROHM Isc and Ith, so the most likely reason is related to the package.

  • Eric,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, you are correct. I meant 5-pin SOT23.

As your reply, TPS2069C's threshold is higher than Rohm but we could see voltage drop even though we adopt TPS2051C.

If we adopt TPS2069C 8-pin DGN package, do you expect that the issue can be solved?

What is difference of internal block between 5 pin DBV and 8 pin DGN? just package?

    Thanks.
