LM2576 damaged on battery source

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2576HV

I have a voltage regulator with 29v input 5V out that uses LM2576HV , and it is powered by a battery . While testing it , the regulator and the output capacitor got damaged .I am trying to identify why this happened , but cannot come with anything ,can you please help me ?

Thanks

  • There are many reasons a regulator can be damaged. The schematic, the components, the layout and how the regulator is powered and loaded.

Please provide more details for us to understand your use case.

Please use Webench to check your schematic.

What kind of output capacitor is used in your design?

Can you send us your layout picture?

When the board is connected to the battery, is the part enabled? I'd suggest try to disable the part when connecting the battery and enable the part afterward. How much load is there when the part is starting up? Can you capture some waveforms during the startup, or before the damage happen?
