UC2903: Sensing a negative voltage level

Part Number: UC2903

I need to monitor +15V & -15V opamp power supplies. I'm having some difficulty understanding the concept behind sensing a negative voltage level using SENSE 4 & SENSE 4 INVERT INPUT lines.

  • Vijay,

Figure 6 shows how to configure the device for negative voltage sensing. The idea is to use the internal comparator that is set in the inverting configuration. Pin 5 is the inverting input and connected to ground because Pin 3 is GND. So by applying a negative voltage across R2 with the negative side on the bottom and the positive side at Pin 5, this will detect negative voltage. The negative voltage is scaled using R1/R2 * 2.5V.

Please let me know if this is clear.

  • Thanks a lot Michael for the explanation.

Your inputs, in addition to the data provided in the datasheet, have helped me understand the concept better.

    Regards,

    Vijay
