Starterware/FDC1004EVM: FDC1004EVM

Part Number: FDC1004EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004, FDC2214

Tool/software: Starterware

I just bought the FDC1004EVM and it has stopped communicating with the GUI in Windows after a failed attempt to update firmware.

I cannot communicate with it again.

When I plug it in, Windows recognizes it as a USB.

But the GUI does not see it.

It communicated correctly with the GUI initially.

I was trying to update the firmware: I thought perhaps it shipped with an earlier firmware and wanted to update it.

I read the Instructions and was following them in Section 3.9

It started off OK, but then it hung up.

I waited for at least 10 minutes before interrupting the process: I am fully aware of the risks of doing this.

The instructions say it might take some time.

"Wait for the firmware to upload. Do NOT disconnect the EVM from the PC at this time! Also note that the GUI will disconnect from the EVM. The upload process should not take more than one minute. If the upload fails or lasts longer than one minute, unplug the EVM and restart the GUI."

I followed the procedure: disconnected the device and restarted the GUI if upload is not done in more than 1 minute.

i waited 10 minutes.

The device is no longer recognized by the GUI.

What can I do?

Thanks.

  • Hi Alan,

Which file did you upload to the EVM? Or did you upload the entire zip folder?

Please try this old GUI from the link below. Does the GUI recognize the device?

  • Hi Yibo,
    I selected FDC2x14_LDC13xxRevB_LDC16xxRevB_EVM_Firmware.txt.

I was following the instructions, and that's the one they said to select.
I think it started to flash and then hung up.
    I didn't do anything.
Like I didn't disconnect anything, or even perform any other operation.

I waited 10 minutes and it didn't finish.
It says if it takes longer than 1 minute, to disconnect the EVM and quit the GUI and retry.

    I'm afraid it's "bricked", right?

  • I can see the USB, but no more than that.
  • And it DID connect before that.
It's plugged into the USB now on my laptop as well, although before it did work via a USB hub.
  • I see a post that might help me.
I'm not sure how to forward it, but they said:

    In reply to Mitch Sevier:
    Hi Mitch,
If you download the Sensing Solutions GUI (v1.8.8), you can find the communication protocol in the SSP_Protocol_Int0v4.js file found in C:\ti\Sensing Solutions EVM GUI-1.8.8\PC GUI\node_modules\SspEvmNodeJS.
    Thanks,
    Rachel

Can you please tell me where I can find this Sensing Solutions GUI?
I searched for it, and didn't see it.

Or if if thats' not going to be helpful, then how does TI recover from a bad flash?
Like what do you do with a DFU device firmware update recovery mode case?

And how is the firmware flashed initially?
Is there a utility for that?

I see some other issues with users having problems communication with this device, I'm not the only one.
Maybe the GUI needs an update?

    Thanks for your help.
When i ran the GUI first, and tested it with the on-board sensors it was very good.

I'd like to go further with it.

    Thanks,
    Alan
  • Have I missed a reply here?
I followed the instructions and my Texas Instruments device is dead.

    What can I do?
  • Hi Alan,

Unfortunately the FDC2x14 file will not work for FDC1004.

The user guide just uses that as an example. It says "The images below show uploading the FDC2214 EVM firmware, but the steps are identical for any LDC, FDC, or HDC EVM when using their respective firmware files."
