HDC1010: Operation below suggested minimum temperature

Part Number: HDC1010

I am interested in using the HDC1010 in a cold application below the ambient and functional operating temperatures in table 7.3 of the HDC1010 data sheet.  I understand that there may be drifts in the temperature RH measurement.  I would like to know if there are any documented applications or test data showing the performance of HDC1010 down to and below -40 deg C.

  • Hi Joe,

Unfortunately we don't have data showing performance of HDC1010 down to -40 degC but please consider that HDC is a relative humidity sensors and at -40degC the relative humidity is practically equal to 100%RH. This means that if you inject water vapor in the environment it immediately condense because the ambient is fully saturated. Please refer to the following psychometric chart:

At -40degC it is enough to have 0.35 grams of H2O in a kg of air to reach 100%RH and have condensation.

In this condition is also very difficult to define and measure the accuracy of the humidity sensor.

Please let me know if you have any doubts or need further information.

    Best regards,

    Carmine
