LDC1312 Coil design

We suppose to use LDC1312 and we want to design a coil satisfying following.

1. A distance to detect the presence of the target is 5mm.
2. We don't want to worry about the impact of the bottom of box.

We got the following design parameter using WEBENCH for Inductive Sensing Applications : Axial positino sensing.

Can we follow these design parameters? Could you please review it and give me advice if any?

Hello Na Na,

the maximum sensing range will be reduced by the aluminum box, particularly because your target isn't very conductive (Al is almost 4 times as conductive as iron). However, if your system doesn't require very fine resolution, it should still work.

Info on maximum sensing range of the LDC1312 (without the secondary target) is here: https://e2e.ti.com/blogs_/b/analogwire/archive/2015/06/17/inductive-sensing-how-far-can-i-sense. Your sensing range will be lower because of the target material and the secondary target.

I hope you find the info helpful. Let us know if you have any further questions. Keep in mind that the pin-to-pin compatible, high-resolution LDC1612 is also available, just in case your system doesn't achieve the resolution that you require.
