LM96080 one channel readback fail

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM96080

Hi team,

My customer is using LM96080 and they found that in one occasional power-up, one of the 7 channels might have readback failure. Other 6 channels are all OK.

Could you kindly check whether we have met same issue before?

Thank you!

  • Hi Luke,

We will need more information on what they are doing.

If they power on and immediately try to make a reading they will get bad data.  The Value RAM conversion results (addresses 20h - 29h) and Value RAM WATCHDOG limits (addresses 2Ah - 3Dh) are not reset and will be indeterminate immediately after power on.

Are they are doing some set up before making the readings?

    Mike

  • Hi Michael,
    Thanks for the reply.
Since this issue only happened once, we also lacked information about the issue.
We only know that the chip was OK for a long time running- and then the issue occurred. When they tried powering-up down the device again, the issue went away. When their software reported "readback failure", it means the I2C bus might have a physical failure.
Currently, they couldn't reproduce the issue directly. But they want to add a hardware_reset action to LM96080 in their software if the issue is observed again.
They have a question on how many modules are covered by this hardware_reset. Will it do almost the same thing as power-up & power-down?
    Thank you!
  • HI Luke,

There are three ways to reset the LM96080.

    Power Cycling will reset everything.

Taking NTEST_IN/Reset_IN low for more than 50ns does the same as a power cycle.

Writing the INITIALIZATION bit will reset the register listed in the list on page 14 of the datasheet.  The Value RAM conversion results and the Value RAM WATCHDOG limits are not reset.
