I am interested in knowing if anyone in the community has experience in interfacing TDC1000, TDC7200 with either Arduino or Raspberry Pi. I want to explore potential application of sensing ambient wind speed.

Hi,
My daughter is doing a high school project to build a low-cost water flow meter using the TDC7200-1000 EVM and the ultrasonic sensors. She wants to connect a Raspberry Pi to the EVM and do some processing on the collected data. Has anybody done it, or does anyone know how to?

I've been tasked with a similar project. All the data I find points to other mcus. But my experience is only in arduino an raspberry pi. I'm hoping one of the brilliant minds at ti can grab an uno and figure this out over a coffee break. Would open a huge use of this chip

@user4575707, I have to get the TDC1000 first and looking at the two eval boards at the moment:

However, I may go with a simple breakout board if I can find it. What board are you using?

My intention is to post everything to GitHub once I get started.

I'm actually working with the TDC1000 and TDC7200 on a breadboard (with adapters to adapt them into a DIP package to be able to connect then easily). I'm following the schematics of the EVM TI posted to make sure the connections match their recommendation and are correct.
Can you bypass the TI MCU and replace it with an Arduino on these EVMs ?

My understanding is yes you can. From what I read so far the TDC1000 can return values to the Arduino over UART. I believe the TDC72000 can also be removed and use the arduino for the time in flight conversion. This would be similar to the Arduino PING example: www.arduino.cc/.../Ping.

Would you mind sharing any pictures or schematics you have? I could post them to a git repo, and soon as I get my TI parts we can start collaborating.

Hey ,
As I understand, these device do not support UART , only SPI as a serial interface for configuration.
You should be able to do something similar to the ping example , but you should make sure that the TOF measured is long enough for the arduino to calculate it correctly and and that the calculation resolution suits your application - can you get better then uS resolution on the Arduino ?

I think for better than uS mesurments, likely a better MCU will be required. I don't think the issue is Arduino, but likely is the Atmel 328 or 32u4 IC. Something like SAMD would be better. I'll take a look at that PDF and try to put something together once I order the parts?

As I see it , If you plan to use the TDC7200 (timer) then you don't need a better MCU then the Arduino.

The timer will measure the TOF , and MCU will just read the results from its registers.

I'm also interested in using the TDC1000 with the arduino (ATMEG328). it looks quite straight forward since the TDC1000 uses spi and does all the work in doing the measurement?
anybody doing getting any results? any sketches?

I still haven't gotten around to getting the TDC1000. At the moment, I'm not looking to cough out $100 for their dev board that's meant to work with something else. Maybe I'm missing something, but if someone can point me to where to buy it, I'll get one and give it a go.

found the buy page, but there's no DIP package, so I'd have to build an SMD to DIP breakout board just to play with this. MEH. one day...
