DRV5032: use for stainless steel

Part Number: DRV5032

Hi Sirs,

Sorry for bother you.

We are survey DRV5032 for Magnetic switch application.

We would like to know if we use  stainless steel on sensor area, the the sensor function still work?

  • Hello Shu-Cheng,

Thank you for using the TI forum.

Although the steel plate will affect the magnetic field, the impact in the area where the sensors are should be minimal.  Because of this, the sensors will function as normal, but the distance of the magnets to the sensors for triggering the switch could change slightly.

For example, the magnetic field for two magnets near each other but facing opposite directions (as in your picture, but without the steel plate) would look like this:

And when the steel plate is added, the magnetic field changes to:

So, in general your setup should still work since the majority of the affect is above the magnets, but I recommend simulating your exact setup with your specific magnets, spacing, and steel plate.  The simulation software I used for the images above is called FEMM, which is available for free at http://femm.info
