IWR6843: Modifying the mmWave Demo Visualizer source code

Dear Technical Support,

I want to execute the mmWave demo Visualizer in debug mode using GUI Composer:

- Run the mmWave demo Visualizer I downloaded locally: http://localhost:port_number and other stuff

- I tried beginning with an empty project but I am quickly lost in the parametization of the UART dual interface: it has never connected

Please could you advise? Any tutorial available?

There is a tutorial available on the TI Resource Explorer, dev.ti.com/.../

This will walk you through the whole process of using the demo in Debug Mode.

Hi Akash,

Thanks for your reply. I was talking about the GUI (Javascript based) in debug mode and not the firmware in debug mode.

Is there any tutorial available for the GUI in debug mode?

Hi Anthony,

There is no tutorial on this but you can user your browser's Developer Tools to step through each of the Java scripts and make breakpoints where appropriate.

I have tried using "nodejs app-server.js" but it failed at some point.

Can you confirm you've been able to use the visualizer in regular fashion?

If you are using Chrome press ctrl+shift+i to open the developer tools.

Then navigate to the following java script, top>>dev.ti.com>>app>>mmWave.js

This is the main script from which the visualizer is run from. You can set breakpoints here and step through it accordingly.

Yes, it runs in regular fashion in offline mode.

I did not think about debugging using browser, thanks for the advice. I will try tomorrow and keep you posted.

Yes please let us know how that works for you.

I was unaware that you were running in offline mode. You are using the Gui Composer Runtime correct? You will not be able to debug in this mode since it is intended for runtime only. You'll need to run it using the developer tools on a browser in order to debug. Chrome is the recommended browser here.

Hi,

I am trying to debug the demo using Chrome browser in runtime mode but I found it is not an easy task and that the "mmWave Demo Visualizer" I got using GUI Composer is an old version!

I would like to get the "Relative Power (dB)" values of the "Range Profile for zero Doppler" graph but I do not find where I can get these values into javascript source code.

Please could you advise on where I can get such values? Also, please could you explain how the different javascript files are articulated together.

Hi Anthony,

When you are debugging the demo in the browser Developer Tools, you'll want to find the object data component labeled "PeakVal." This what corresponds to the Relative Power values that appear in your Range Profile plot.

I found that Relative Power graph refers to rp values inside processRangeNoiseProfile() for MMWDEMO_OUTPUT_MSG_RANGE_PROFILE TLV type.

peakValLog is used inside processDetectedPoints() when TLV type is MMWDEMO_OUTPUT_MSG_DETECTED_POINTS and is only used in plotScatterpoints() and when Params.use_restyle = 1;

The problem here is that Params.use_restyle = 2; in the current code and I tried to modify it on the fly but without any success.

Please could you tell me how to modify the code in runtime execution?
