IWR6843ISK: Part stopped flashing

Part Number: IWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST, , UNIFLASH

Hello,

I have a standard setup of an IWR6843ISK plus a MMWAVEICBOOST and now I can't flash to the hardware anymore. Below are screenshots of the error message. This hardware was working before and I have another two sets of similar hardware that they are still working just fine using the same laptop and toolchain. I tried resetting the power as well as pressing the reset button before flashing with no luck. Please let me know what can be done to resolve this issue. Thanks!

  • Hi Mustafa,

Please follow these steps while flashing an image to the mmwave sensor.

    1. Please make sure that you have set the right SOP jumper (SOP0 and SOP2) on EVM in order to put the device in flashing mode. Do the power cycle after putting the jumpers then start using Uniflash.
    2. Make sure the COM port number is correct in the Uniflash ‘Settings & utilities’ TAB. This COM port should be the number which is populated as a “XDS110 Class Application/User UART”.
    3. Disconnect and connect the USB cable if Uniflash is not able to access the COM port.
    4. Check the power supply if it is according to the spec. (5V ~3A)
    5. If Uniflash was crashed or closed forcefully in the last session then try to close these processes from TaskManager – “DSLite.exe” and “Python**” and restart the Uniflash GUI.
    6. Try a different PC to use the Uniflash. (if above doesn’t resolve the issue)

  • I went through these posts and follow some of the suggested steps. I turned off both my wired and wireless connections, make sure I have a higher version than 4.5 for uniflash, enabled the log file, made sure no DSLite or python tasks are running and tried a different PC but I am still getting the same error message. Attached is the log file. Please keep in mind that I have another similar hardware that is working just fine but this one is not anymore. Thanks!

  • Hi Mustafa,

Could you please post the picture of the board.

After configuration of SOP jumper (SOP0 and SOP2) It is important to hit the reset button, This would register Flash programming boot mode to the device.

If the NRESET button is not pressed, device may not enter the flash programming boot mode.

Also please ensure other applications such as mmWave studio or such application is not using the XDS110 COM port during this process.

    Thanks and regards,

    CHETHAN KUMAR Y.B.

  • Hello Chethan,

Attached is the requested picture and yes I am hitting the reset button as instructed. Please keep in mind that I have another two hardware are working just fine following my usual process and using the same laptop.

  • Hi,

Can you try with a different IWR6843ISK? Also why does the EVM look that way, what was done that caused that much degradation on the board?

    Regards,

    Charles O

  • I did try another ISK and still not functional. I am not sure why there is that much degradation. I was assuming that those copper traces were not covered by any protective layer so they are oxidating. The board has been on my bunch with normal indoor conditions.

  • Hi,

is the problem tracking the MMWAVEICBOOST or the ISK?

    Regards,

    Charles O

  • Interestingly both. If I plug the isk board to a known good boost board, it won't work. Same if I plug in a known good isk board to the malfunctioning boost board. Whatever the cause is, it seems to have affected both boards.

Are we at a point where I should send you both boards for debugging? I am not sure what else can be done from my end.

  • Hi,

Seems like the EVMs are damaged. Unfortunately per the terms and condition of purchase, we don't offer refunds or exchanges.
