TDC1000-C2000EVM: GUI 1.2.0.59

Part Number: TDC1000-C2000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSS4470, TUSS4440, TDC1000, PGA460

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am going to use TDC1000-C2000 to do fluid ID experiments before designing my own PCB. In the "TDC1000-C2000EVM User’s Guide" SNIU023.pdf, the GUI version GUI 1.2.0.59  (on page 8) has a tab "Fluid ID" while the GUI version downloaded from TI website GUI 1.2.0.83 does not have the "Fluid ID" tab.

Could you please explain why the "Fluid ID" tab was removed from the newer revision and how to download the GUI 1.2.0.59 version which has the "Fluid ID" tab ?

Thank you very much !

Rick

  • Hi Rick,

In short, the TDC1000 has been positioned in a legacy support mode, because TI's focus is on promoting the use of the latest ultrasonic ICs, the TUSS4470 and TUSS4440. The removal of the "Fluid ID" tab from the GUI was a decision made by a previous team in an effort to minimize the TDC1000 GUI to only display the time of flight result. Any subsequent post processing of this information must be handled by the user in custom firmware development.

If you are seeking a device to perform fluid ID measurements, I no longer recommend the TDC1000. Instead, you can implement the same with the newer TUSS4470, or even the TUSS4440 or PGA460 depending on the frequency of the transducer you are using. See the recently updated Ultrasonic  E2E FAQ ( https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/748143 ) for some additional discussion on using ultrasonic sensors for content identification.

  • HI Akeem:

Thank you very much for quick response and explanation.

I fully understand TI's position for promoting newer ICs, and I will check it out for my design based on your recommendations.

Since I already ordered the TDC1000 evaluation board from TI, could you please send me a link to download the older version of the GUI with the "Fluid ID" tab? It seems multiple older versions should have the "Fluid ID"tab.

    Best regards,

    Rick

  • Rick,

Unfortunately, any version of software containing the Fluid ID tab was obsoleted and not archived. I suspect the original TDC1000-C2000 EVM/GUI developer was prototyping this feature, and did not intend for it to be a public, but rather a demo of the device's capabilities.
