HID consumer control with android

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2541

Hi guys,

I am using the Bluetooth Smart Remote Control Kit that has a CC2541 BT LE chip to connect with my phone (galaxy S5 andriod 4.4.2). The firmware i'm using is HIDAdvRemote.
Navigation and number keys are recognized with my phone, but the consumer controls (vol+, vol-, mute, play, stop, next track etc) are not working with the phone. However, they work perfectly fine with my PC that is running windows 8.

Has anyone had this issue? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Aaron.

  • Hi Aaron,

We will check this and get back you.

  • Hi Aaron,

We Checked this out. It is reproducible at our end. The funny thing is that only Samsung phones(android version 4.4.2/3) have this issue. When we checked the logs and all, we found that the Samsung phone is not enabling notification from Key fob for consumer reports. While all other phones(android 4.4.4) enable notification for consumer report.

There were report from internet that this is a bug in android and this will be fixed by migrating android to 4.4.4 or later.

As of now, Galaxy S5 still doesn't support Android 4.4.4 and will move to Android 5.0  in near future. We will check once any of the Samsung phones support android 4.4.4 or later again.

    Regards,

    Arun

  • Hi Aaron,

I did a check with Samsung Galaxy Alpha phone which runs on Android v4.4.4. The Consumer reports( I checked Volume Up) works fine in it while it doesnt work on Samsung Galaxy S5(Android v4.4.2) So this looks to be a Android issue only as they were not enabling notification for Consumer report characteristic. It kooks like on migrating to Android version 4.4.4 or later this should be fixed.

  • Hi Arun,

I had a customer who is trying to sell their remote built with CC2541 to an Android box v4.4.3 and faced with similar issue with the consumer control keys. Is there any way to get around it?

The customer is able to demonstrate that our competition devices is able to overcome the v4.4.3 (not enabling notification for Consumer report characteristic) with the consumer control buttons. Do you have any idea how the competition part can overcome this inherent issue in Android older version?

    Thanks,
    Christina
