External Antenna for MRD2EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MRD2EVM

I have already bought MRD2EVM evaluation kit and I want to connect an etxernal antenna. Can anyone confirm that what I have to do is just cut the pads in SJ1 and SJ2 and then connect my antenna to the connector close to it?

Another issue: I can't find SJ3 connector; where is it?

Last: where can I find documentation about the purpose of SWITCH1?

Best regards,

  • Hi Juan,

Correct, disconnect SJ1 and SJ2 to remove the onboard antenna and connect your 47uH antenna coil to the header.

Good question!  I don't see SJ3 on the board either.  Let me look into this.

Have a look at the MRD2 Reference Guide(the module, not the EVM).  This switch allows you to change the status of the WLS, CRDM, and RDEN- pins.  Section 4.2.3 of the reference guide shows the description of each pin.

  • Hi Juan,

the SJ3 is not so easy to find because it is covered by a sticker at the buttom of the EVM module.

This Jumper is only needed if you want to supply the module not from the USB port but from an external supply.
