Where can I find FCC certified reference design(s) for CC30XX or CC32XX with external antenna?

Hello,

We are building a product that has our mainboard behind a large grounded backplane. The WiFi module is specified to be on the mainboard. In order to received signal from the product, we'll need an external WiFi antenna.

Are there reference design(s) for the CC30XX or CC32XX with an external antenna that are FCC certified?

We would like to avoid our own FCC certification to minimize cost and time on development.

Regards,

Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,

Our FCC certification for the module is with a chip antenna on-board. A design using a different antenna type would have to go through a class 2 permissive change. This would require additional testing and would cost ~1/2 that of full certification.

  • Hi Aaron,

If we use the module and the chip antenna set, only to have them on separate boards - would we still need to go through Class 2 permissive change?

  • Jerry,

The rule of thumb for a Class I vs. Class II change is if it can cause a degradation in the performance of the device. So I think it depends on the nature of the connection. These sorts of things are open to legal interpretation, but as long as you do not allow users to swap out the antenna, or other wise increase the radiated power, I doubt this change will result in degraded RF characteristics.
