RF430FRL152HEVM: How do i connect thefabricated antenna with RF430FRL152HEVM?

Part Number: RF430FRL152HEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: RF430FRL152H

Hi, i'm So-yum Kim, and i'm graduate student of Ulsan National Istitute of Science Technology in Korea.

I'm working on fabrication of antenna for NFC chipas and modules.

A few days ago, we bought a "RF430FRL152HEVM" model to testify our fabricated antenna.

Our antenna has resonance frequency of ~13.56 MHz with ~-10 dB. The antenna have outer diameter of 1.2 cm and inner diameter with 8 mm. (I attatched the antenna information, plaese check it)

We cut the antenna part of RF430FRL152HEVM model and connect it with our antenna, however, they do not operate.

(I attatch the our experimental system, please check it.)Questions.pdf

We thought our antenna could replace the antenna built into the module.

Is there any something wrong? or the our fabricated antenna need more specific design?

Sincerely,

So-Yun Kim

  • When you attach your antenna, do you also remove capacitor C14 on the EVM?  This capacitor is part of the EVM's antenna tuning.  If you are not removing it, when you attach your own antenna - which appears fully tuned, this additional capacitance will detune the system.

If you have not had a chance to do so, please check this document on antenna design:

  • Also, when you are checking the tuning of the antenna, it needs to be with the RF430FRL152H connected to the antenna. This is because, even though you are designing the antenna for 13.56 MHz, the RF430FRL152H also has internal capacitance which needs to be taken into consideration. So the device and the antenna needs to be tested and tuned together.
  • We didn't' remove the C14 when we connected the antenna to the module.

We will try it. Also, we check again the antenna after connecting the   RF430FRL152H .

    Thanks for your help.
