Another question.....could I swap out the BQ51050 with the BQ51013B-Q1 (seems only a slight difference on Pin 10)?
And would it help?
BTW if you need me to scope let me know how to set it up and I'll try.

We have a couple of two IC solutions:
1.) TIDA-00318 -- This will combine the BQ51003 and BQ2500X charger. This design is targeted at 500mA or less solutions.
2.) BQ25171-Q1 + BQ51013B-Q1 -- Application note SLUAAJ6

You are correct regarding the connection on bq51050 Bat, Adapter output and limitation of EVM. Circuit you are interested in is show in data sheet figure 37.
