INA219: VCM recommended operating conditions

Genius 17175 points
Part Number: INA219

Hi all

My customer has an 18V bus voltage and likes to use the INA219 where the datasheet claims "Senses Bus Voltages from 0 to 26 V"

Looking at page 4 and recommended operating conditions he finds only a nominal value of 12V for VCM.

Is it ok to use the device at 18V ?

It would be very helpful to update the datasheet with a max value as well.

Best regards

Ueli

  • Hello Ueli,

    An 18V bus voltage is fine. You can find the recommended range for bus input voltage (measured from IN-, see Pin Functions table on pg.3 of the datasheet) reiterated in the electrical characteristics table:

    Note comment (2) below the table as well, “This parameter only expresses the full-scale range of the ADC scaling. In no event should more than 26 V be applied to this device.”

    You can see more detail given in Figure 13. of the datasheet:

    Additionally, while 18V is fine, there will be a small error due to CMRR away from the 12V test condition (~6uV).

    CMRR = 120dB = 1uV/V; e_CMRR = (18V-12V)(1uV/V) = 6uV.

    Best Regards,

    Benjamin
