TLC272: PS(SO) package information request

Part Number: TLC272
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV9102

Hello,

My customer will use TLC272CPSR and checked the datasheet(SLOS091E), but there is no information for PS(SO) package.  Would you please update the datasheet or give me the following information if it takes time to update the datasheet?

1. There is no information for PS(SO) package on top page.

2. There is no information of PS(SO) for available options on page 2.

3. There is no information of PS(SO) for dissipation rating table on page 4.

Best Regards,

Yoshikazu Kawasaki

  • Hello, Kawasaki-san

    The PS will be the same 8 pin pinout.

    Available options can also be found on product page. https://www.ti.com/product/TLC272#order-quality

    Dissipation rating will require a thermal model, New models can take up to 2 week to complete (on rare cases longer).

    In my experience, PS is more difficult to find a new replacement op amp in the future (we only have 21 PS dual op amp options). So I don't recommend new designs using this package. I did notice that TLC272 is quite old, last data sheet revision was long ago, and TLC272 product page recommends a different newer op amp. This doesn't mean that TLC272PS is going away soon. However if it did go away, it would be very difficult to find a replacement that was pin to pin / package compatible.

    Would you like me to request a model be made for TL272PS?

  • Hello Ron-san,

    Thank you for your quick reply.

    The PS will be the same 8 pin pinout

    I understand both D(SOIC) and PS(SO) are 8 pin package with different dimension as shown on page 41 for D(SOIC) and 44 for PS(SO).  Would you update the datasheet to show PS on top page?

    Available options can also be found on product page. https://www.ti.com/product/TLC272#order-quality

    Thank you for the information, but would you please update the datasheet to show PS on page 2?

    TLC272 product page recommends a different newer op amp

    I'll check if my customer can consider TLV9102.

    Would you like me to request a model be made for TL272PS?

    Yes, I'd like to ask you to provide the dissipation rating table for PS package as well if you don't mind.  If my customer can use TLV9102, I'll tell you then so that you don't have to work on this.

  • Hello Ron-san,

    My customer has already started working on TLC272.  I mean they've decided to use it.  Therefore I’m afraid they won't change it to TLV9102, so would you please provide the dissipation table for PS?

    Best Regards,

  • Yoshikazu-san,

    I placed a new thermal model request , this will give many thermal parameters. From Theta-JA value, I can get a power dissipation number. The model team has a significant backlog so it could take a full 2 weeks to get the results. I will also request a data sheet change, unfortunately this will take a lot longer than 2 weeks.

    I will reply again, when model is complete or in two weeks, whichever comes first.

  • Yoshikazu-san,

    For device TLC272CPS based on thermal model,

    Ta<=25C power rating is 1175mW

    Derating factor = 9.4mW/C  (edit, not C/W)

    Ta = 70C power rating = 752mW

    Ta = 85C power rating = Not Applicable

    Ta = 125C power rating = Not Applicable

  • Hello Ron-san,

    Thank you very much for your reply.  Is this a typo?

    Derating factor = 9.4C/W

    -> Derating factor = 9.4mW/C
