TI Power Amplifier : Need to understand correlation between input signal and out

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3104-Q1, TPA3118D2, TLV320AIC3100, TLV320AIC3104

Hi TI team,

Greetings !

For TI amplifiers, Need to understand correlation between input signal and output signal .

need some graph  or Mapping info/data.

Example.. if max output is to fixed to say 2W or 5 W or 10W, how to do it ?

PA has limit.. we cant use it.

Your support is appreciated.

Thanks

  • Hi Mithun,

Are you considering any specific part? The linearity may change from one device to other. Gain settings and limiter features are different as well. If we can have a better idea of what your application is we can provide some options based on that.

  • Hello Ivan,

Yes, we do have below Audio Codec and PA

    Audio codec 1 -

    TLV320AIC3100IRHBR

    Audio Codec 2 -

    TLV320AIC3104-Q1

    PA - External power Amplifier

    TPA3118D2QDAPRQ1

We need to drive power from 2W to 40W.

Could you please share your inputs on this?

    Thanks

    Mithun

  • Hi Mithun,

    Thanks for the additional information.

So I assume this means either TLV320AIC3100 or TLV320AIC3104 will be the source of the audio signal, and the analog output of this CODEC will be input to TPA3118D2.
In that case the gain is mostly applied by TPA3118D2. I would recommend to start by considering how much output power is required, based on that you can decide how much gain for TPA3118D2 as this is fixed. Then CODEC can be used for fine volume control.

If you have any specific question on each device I would recommend to start a thread for each part, this way the correct contact will take over your questions.

  • Hi Ivan

We have two codec in our board.

    Audio code 1

    TLV320AIC3100IRHBR

    Audio code 2

    TLV320AIC3104-Q1

We are going to use it for Different Use cases.

PA [TPA3118D2] output need to be configurable from 2w to 50w. How to do it?

    Thanks

    Mithun

  • Hi Mithun,

I would recommend to first set your maximum output settings, eg. you set AIC3100 to full-scale output and connect to TPA3118D2, then make sure TPA3118D2 is able to reach the power you need. Based on figure 8 from TPA3118D2 data sheet, you may need PVcc = 24V. You can first try with 20dB gain and increase it if need more power.
Then you can control the output from AIC3100 by using digital gain.
Repeat the same for AIC3104, most likely the output drive of both AIC CODECS is similar.
