OPA735: Operating Temperature Clarification

Part Number: OPA735

Hi Team,

Page 3 of the OPA735 datasheet shows two temperature ranges: Specified (−40°C to +85°C) and Operating (-40°C to +150) Range . Can we ask for clarification on which is the "recommended" operating temperature range for the device?

Thanks in advance!

Kind Regards,

Jejomar

  • Hello Jejomar,

Searching the OPA735 datasheet I do not see any reference to "recommended" operating temperature range, but I do know that term appears in other TI op amp datasheets. The OPA735 datasheet provides the two temperature ranges that you mention, Specified (−40°C to +85°C) and Operating (-40°C to +150). Therefore, we can consider them in relation to what one might refer to as "Recommended."

Taking the wider Operating Range of -40°C to +150 that means that the OPA735 will operate as an op amp and  be fully functional over that temperature range. What it doesn't tell you is how far its electrical performances may vary from those had across the Specified temperature range. Some parameters may still fall within what is obtained within the Specified Range, while others may fall outside that range.

The Specified Range of −40°C to +85°C is the range where the OPA735 Boldface text specifications are assured to be within the the limits listed in the Electrical Characteristics table. If the term "Recommended" is to be applied the Specified Range would be the most applicable term, but as mentioned the term isn't used in the OPA735 datasheet so in this case its just a relative term.

Since both Specified and Operating Ranges have a minimum low of −40°C the performances will not be different at cold. It is only when the temperature on the high end and above +85°C is where Specified transitions to Operating. Therefore, above +85°C is where the electrical performances may be somewhat degraded than when the temperature is below +85°C.
