INA280: short cut detection and overload recovery time

Part Number: INA280
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA281

Hi,

INA280 works fine with common mode voltage of 2.7V till 110V. Is the INA280 also suitable to detect a hard short cut to GND, which pulls also the input pin down to GND?

How long long is the overload recovery time after a negative current was sensed?

  • Hello user,

Please be aware that the INA280 has a minimum common mode voltage vs Supply Voltage, see below from datasheet.  If the VCM is below the plotted line the the output is not known and could vary not giving a repeatable output voltage with device variation.  An alternative is the INA281 which has the ability to go below the GND for the VCM.  The overload recovery is dependent on many conditions but what I have seen in the worst case was about 80us.  I would verify in your conditions.
