INA3221-Q1: about disable channel and Power-Valid Alert

Part Number: INA3221-Q1

Hello, have some question about disable Channel and Power-Valid Alert

3 channels in this sensor, and I use 2 of them (CH1, CH3).

[task1] sensor reset (reg 0x00h, bit 15 --> 1)

[task2] CH2 is disabled with configuration register,

[task3] and we set upper/lower limit(CH1, CH3) below the input voltage.

[task4] IN2- pin has been already connected to a valid rail.

Q1. after these 4 tasks, still Power-Valid Alert output is low. Is there anything that I need to do?

Q2. since CH2 has been already disabled, [task4] is necessary? or not?

Thank you,

Lee

  • Hello,

Q1, The steps are correct. IN2- should be connected to either channel 1 or 3's IN- pin (not clear what valid rail is).

What values are you writing to the PV registers in hex? What would you like the Power Valid range to be in volts (just trying to make sure you are writing the values you want)? Are you pulling up the PV pin to VPU?

Can you read the bus voltage of the channels? Is it what you expect?

Q2, The datasheet has a paragraph detailing that task4 is necessary. Can be seen below:

  • we didn't pulling up the PV pin to VPU pin but just other 1.8V supply voltage with pull up resister, like below. Can it cause any problems?

  • Hello Lee,

Yes, you will need to connect the V 1.8V to the VPU pin in order to properly bias the power valid detection circuit. Refer to picture below.

If you have any other questions please reply
