TL082-Q1: Thermal information

Hi Sirui,

measuring the case temperature of a plastic package is a difficult task, as the tip of thermometer can easily cool down the surface which will degrade the reading. So it's probable that the case temperature is even some higher than 95°C. If reliability and precision is important in your application, I would go for the 125°C version ("Q").

Thanks for replying. The ambient temp is high due to other device, TL082 is not the hot source. So I understand the junction temp will be lower than case temp. In this case, can we use 85° version?

Hi Sirui,

when the TL082 is operating it dissipates heat and becomes a heat source. Because of that the junction will always be at a higher temperature than the case. This is the nature of a heat source.

Also, the "I" version must only be used up to an ambient temperature of +85°C. But as you mentioned it is +95°C. So the "Q" version should be used.

Also measure lead temperature. Most of the heat flow is though the leads.
