INA849: INA849 power consumption

Part Number: INA849

Hi Team,

My customer wants to check how to calculate the supply current of INA849. We only find the Quiescent current on the datasheet.

The output capability of negative rail of TPS65312 is 80mA(Start) and 150mA(stable with Sync tied high). If the IQ is the supply current, the TPS65312S should be able to power up 6 INA849 but actually failed. It can only drive 3 INA849.

Many thanks!

Best regards

Ella

  • Hi Ella,

unfortunately, you don't tell what supply voltages are used. If running the INA849 with a bipolar supply voltage, latch-up of the voltage regulator which's output voltage comes up later could be the reason of malfunction. You might want to read this thread and the links I have given there:

Better help can be given, if you provide us with some more details. A schematic would be helpful. What load is connected to the outputs of INA849? These loads could increase the supply current of INA849.

  • The total supply current is a sum of quiescent current (IQ) and the output current (Iout):  I_total =  IQ +Iout.  Since Iout depends on circuit loading conditions, we would need to see schematic showing supply voltage, load and other information like input signal, gain, etc. to determine the maximum output current.
