LMV7231: COPOL Function: Low or High output?

Part Number: LMV7231

Hi TI,

Can you please provide clarity on the function of the COPOL pin?

8.2.3 (Figure 39) shows the output going low when the inputs are outside of the window (COPOL = LOW).

However, 7.4.4 COPOL Input Pin says "When tied LOW, the CO1-CO6 outputs go LOW to indicate an out-of-window comparison. When tied HIGH, the outputs go LOW to indicate a within-window comparison."

Page 2 of the LMV7231EVM says "The state of the COPOL pin determines whether the CO1-CO6 pins are active “HIGH” or “LOW”. When tied LOW the CO1-CO6 outputs will go LOW to indicate an out of window comparison. By default COPOL is set LOW with jumper J5 shorting COPOL to GND. "

Can you please let me know which statement is correct?

Best Regards,

Dan

  • Hi Dan,

Thank you for your question and your confusion is well placed. There is an error in the datasheet.

Just for your reference, here is the old datasheet text for the pin description of this device:

From the EVM User's Guide, this is also confirmed:

So to summarize, Figure 39 is incorrect and the COPOL pin is actually pulled high.

Again, thank you for pointing this out and we will change this in the next datasheet revision.

    Best Regards,

    Joe
