INA234: INA234 VS INA219

Part Number: INA234
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA219,

Hi,

We are using INA219 in our design . Due to long lead time, we would like to replace it with INA234. Could you please confirm if the functionality of both devices are same or if there are any major differences that need to be considered.

Soliciting an early reply,

Mounika Supriya P.

  • Hi,

In the mechanical aspect, the two devices come in different packages. The INA234 has only one address pin and this limits the number of possible I2C addresses.

From the perspective of electrical characteristics, INA234 is compatible with INA219 on major aspects of operation and functionality. There is no major difference when migrating from INA219 to INA234. Some software changes would be necessary to take care of math (LSB, bit manipulation etc.). If course, INA234 also offers certain additional features and improved specs.

The INA219 does have an option for higher input shunt voltages. But if your shunt voltage is ±80mV and below, then this is not a concern.

I compiled this table for a side by side comparison of the two for your convenience.
