TLE2142AM-D: Technology

Part Number: TLE2142AM-D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLE2142,

Hi,

Good Day. I am reaching out to see if I can request confirmation on the technology used within the following part number: TLE2142AMD

Do this part use CMOS, BiMOS, Bipolar or other technologies? Do they use a mixture of technologies? If so, what technologies are within each part respectively?

Please advise. Thank you very much.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

as the datasheet shows, the TLE2142 is a bipolar OPAmp using NPN and PNP transistors. The TLE2142 is an EXCALIBUR OPAmp which means the following:

The standard die fabrication process using vertical structures results in fast NPN transitors but slow PNP transistors. The excalibur process, on the other hand, uses a deeply submerged n-region as an artificial substrate in which a buried p-region becomes the collector. This gives the fast Excalibur PNP transistor.

Using PNP transistors is important in low noise OPAmps because PNP transistors show less noise compared to NPN transistors. Another benefit of using this fast Excalibur PNP transistor together with standard NPN transistors on die is a considerable decrease of supply current.

So, the Excalibur process helps to improve the noise and to decrease the supply current of OPAmp.

  • Hi Ray,

Unless you have some additional questions about the TLE2142AM-D semiconductor technology it looks like Kai pretty well covered it.
