THS4551: Long term availability or alternative

Part Number: THS4551
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS4561

Dear forum members,

Currently I'm designing a new product with an OpAmp in it. Previously I've had good experience with the THS4551 and it will fit the requirements for the new product as well. The only requirement that is debatable is the lifecycle of the part. My customer wants the product to be producible for at least 10 years. TI states 10-15 years and The THS4551 has been around for 6-7 years now.

The question: would you use this part for a new design given the 10 years requirement? And if not: can you recommend an alternative?

Thanks for your feedback.

Kind regards,

Frank

  • Hi Frank,

I don't see any problem using the THS4551 for new designs. But if they would feel better using a new part, the THS4561 could be a good alternative depending on system requirements. Or you could pitch it as a drop in replacement option if the THS54551 does go obsolete early for some reason. But really I think it is fine to use the THS4551.

    Best,
    Sam
