BUF602: Powering the BUF602 with the TPS65133

Part Number: BUF602
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65133, FDC2214, TINA-TI

Dear TI experts,

I have two questions about powering the BUF602.

First question, can I power BUF602 with TPS65133?

The TPS65133 is a ±5V output dual-rail DC converter with a maximum output current of 250mA for the positive and negative channels, respectively.

The second question is about the power consumption of the BUF602.

Since my system is battery powered, how is the power consumption of the BUF602 calculated?

The signal that needs to be buffered is a half-sine wave with an amplitude of 1.8V output by the LC tank of FDC2214.

Best regards,

Will

  • Hello Will,

Any supply scheme which meets the current and voltage requirements will work.  However, potential noise/ripple on the supply will show up as a small signal at the amplifier.  This behavior is characterized by the power supply rejection ratio (PSRR), which can be found for the BUF602 in the datasheet electrical characteristics section.

  • Hello Alec,

    Thank you for your reply.

How can I calculate the power consumption?

In my application the load is a capacitor with capacitance about 10 to 300pF.

    Best regards,

    Will

  • Hi Boyuan,

this depends on your output signal U(t) according to

    I_load = C_load x dU/dt

In a first order approximation the total supply current is the sum of quiescient current and load current then.

Why not running a simple TINA-TI simulation to find out the load current?
