OPA2544: layout guideline

Hi Jack,

I checked and we don't have a specific layout guide for the OPA2544. The OPA541 a somewhat similar single power op amp in a TO-220 package has some information about PC board layout in section 10.1 - Layout Guidelines, and section 10.2 - Layout Example. This information is useful as a general guideline.

The OPA2544 doesn't have especially wide bandwidth, only on the order of 1.4 MHz and that allows for a bit more relaxed layout. Common sense analog circuit layout practices should be sufficient from an ac standpoint, but because the OPA2544 is a power device the dc and peak ac currents need to be accounted for in the design. The supply pins V+ and V-, ground and the output pin will carry currents in the amperes. It is best to use wide, thick traces and use separate planes for them if possible.

Hi Jack,

Thomas is now on vacation.  There is really two "pitch" dimensions for this device, one in the "X" direction and the other in the "Y".  As far as the exact definition of "pitch", typically it is the distance between the center of leads when looking at the top of the device (labeled as "1" below).  

But, the actual distance on a board measured center-to-center between the pins you have highlighted would be the square root of 1.701^2 + 5.08^2 = 5.357 (mm).
