TLV272: max current

Part Number: TLV272
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV274,

Could you please let me know the maximum sourcing and sinking current capability of the individual opamps in the TLV272 and TLV274 ICs?

  • In the absolute maximum rating section, the max current rating is specified as 100mA but in the Electrical Characteristics: Output characteristics section, the maximum negative rail current is specified as 12mA. Could you please clarify this?
  • Hi Madhura,

The output current capability is dependent on the supply. Looking at Figures 7 and 8 on the datasheet would help illustrate this:

The maximum negative rail current is tested with VDD = 10 V and VO = 0.5 V (which is 0.5 V from rail). In this case, that would correspond to about 12 mA. The maximum sinking current reaches 100 mA as output voltage increases (becomes less effective at sinking).

The maximum positive rail current is tested with VDD = 10 V and VO = 9.5 V (which is 0.5 V from rail). In this case, that would correspond to about 13 mA. The maximum sourcing current reaches 100 mA as output voltage decreases (becomes less effective at sourcing).

The datasheet showing output currents for output voltages that are so close to the rails do not illustrate the maximum sourcing and sinking currents, but these curves do.

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Best,
