INA228: IN+/IN- Issue

Part Number: INA228

Hi Expert,

My customer is using INA228 in their new project. And they have some questions about the SCH and Layout. We connected IN+ to VBUS in SCH but IN- to VBUS in Layout. Could you help check witch is the better choice? Many thanks!

BR,

Jiaqi Wang

  • The two inputs are symmetric; the measured shunt voltage can be positive or negative. It makes no difference, except that the software needs to flip around the ADC value.

You can choose whichever makes the layout easier, or the software easier.

  • To add to what Clemens said, if you are only sensing on the high side, then if you connect the VBUS to IN+ the power calculation will also include the power dissipated over the shunt, and if you connect VBUS to in IN- then the power calculation will include the load only whithout the shunt. Either is fine, but it depends on if you want to include the power dissipated over the shunt or not.
