LM358: Designing with LM358

Hello Team,
I am designing a circuit to measure the intensity of light.
I am planning to build a trans-impedance amplifier using LM358 opamp.
Is LM358 a good choice for me?
The application note SBOA220A suggests using a JFET or CMOS opamp.
What type of OP AMP is LM358?

Hi Shibin,

the LM358 is a bipolar OPAmp with much higher input bias currents compared to JFET or CMOS OPAmps.

When your photodiode currents are much higher compared to the input bias current of LM358 then you can take the LM358. Think of a daylight application e.g.

If you are looking for a good low-cost CMOS amplifier, you may look at the TL072H.
