INA129-EP: single supply

Part Number: INA129-EP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA129

The INA129 spec'd for single supply operation.  Is this INA129-EP also capable of single supply operation?

Thanks

  • Most modern IC's do not have internal ground and use p-substrate that is internally biased at the negative supply voltage (V-).  For these reasons, most IC's may be use in single supply, dual supply or with any other supplies for as long as the total supply voltage, Vsup_total = (V+)-(V-), is between specified minimum and maximum values.  In the case of INA129-EP, the linear supply voltage range is from 4.5V to 36V (or +/-2.25V to +/-18V) - see below.

However, since the input and output voltage ranges are specified with respect to its rails, special care must be taken NOT to violate these ranges - see below.

Also, since the valid input/output ranges of instrumentation amplifier is a function not only of supplies but also reference voltage (Vref), Gain, and the input common-mode voltage (Vcm) - see below - you must use Analog Engineer's Calculator to determine the linear ranges.

For the 30V single supply, G=1 and Vref=15V,  the widest output range from 0.8V to 29.1V occurs for 9V , Vcm < 21.5V - see below.

These ranges greatly change for low single supply of 5V - see below.

For all these reasons in order to assure linear operations of INA129-EP, you must use Analog Engineer's Calc tool for your specific circuit conditions
