INA180: INA180

Part Number: INA180

Hi,

In my circuit, I have to sense current in a servo motor whose supply is 6V. Can  i use INA180 powered by a 3.3V for this purpose. The major problem is 6V and 3.3V are generated from separate sources.  My idea is to provide the output of amplifier to internal ADC of STM32. so my current doubt being different power  and ground will it measure accurately?

  • Hey Arjun,

As long as the return potentials of the 6V and 3.3V sources are not significantly changing over time, then it should be ok and accurate to use this circuit as you describe. Additionally, the sources should ideally not be experience fast differential voltage transients, where the absolute voltage of one of the source changes with respect the other rail. This is essentially a fast Vcm change and this will cause AC CMRR output disturbances.

Basically this is essentially saying to do not violate the Absolute Input Vcm voltage at any point, where it is survivable up to +26V and -0.3V and also try to avoid fast ground changes that could break the part and or cause AC CMRR error.

The ideal case is that the ground/return for both ground are connect with low-impedance traces to avoid ground loops, output disturbance and our damage.

    Sincerely,

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

                  Thanks for your response.
