TLV3601: calculation of the toggle frequency

Part Number: TLV3601

Dear team,

1. According to my previous question, it is suggested to calculation of the toggle frequency as picture shown below:

2. However, after I calculate the toggle frequency of the TLV3601, the results (153MHz) has a huge differnece with the spec in the datasheet (325MHz). Is my calculation wrong?

    (2.5+2.5+0.75+0.75)=6.5nS. Ftoggle = 1 / 6.5nS =  154MHz.

Best Regards

Zhihong Huang

  • Using the propagation delay gives you a worst-case estimate. It might be possible that the input is able to handle the next edge even when the output has not yet finished switching. The datasheet specification is correct.

  • Hi Zhihong,

looks like the 200mVpp sine wave allows more overdrive? More overdrive, more speed.

  • Hi Zhihong,

Thanks for reaching out. Yes your calculations are right and is a good general rule of thumb for estimating. However as Kai mentioned, the prop delay and tr/tf times used are at 50 mV overdrive where as the toggle frequency spec is at a 200mV sine wave, which has more overdrive (since VCM is VEE + 300 mV) . More overdrive will affect the toggle frequency since now the propagation delay times are faster
