PGA280: VOCM vs. Accuracy

Part Number: PGA280
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA281

Hello,

With regard to the VOCM pin, the datasheet always shows this connected to mid supply (VOP+VON)/2

Is there any harm to performance in setting VOCM off from center?  I don't see anything in the datasheet that suggests it would be detrimental, but also nothing that gives any indication that it will not be.

Thank you,

Ben

  • Hi Benjamin,

Is there any harm to performance in setting VOCM off from center?

PGA280 has a differential output and it does not post harm if you have different Vocm requirements at the output, as long as the differential output is not being clipped or operated in saturated mode.

If you want to maximize the output voltage swing, then it is the best to place in the mid supply of (VOP+VON)/2

PGA280 is very similar to PGA281 in terms of its input and output configuration. Enclosed is a Tina simulation in PGA281 (PGA280 does not have one  due to its complexity in register and digital controls).  You may simulate PGA281 instead and check it out.
