LMP7704-SP: Reference TINA design

Part Number: LMP7704-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMP7704

I was going to re-test the new 2021 model for a few things and opened up the reference design.

I always have wondered what in the world are these load C's about in the reference design.

1. Is it accounting for parasitic

2. intended to display cap load robustness

3. a mistake?

4. required for correct performance?

As a reference design, it kind of suggests you need to put it there? I would personnally never suggest that, but they are always there?

  • Hi Michael,

I agree this may be a bit confusing but the CL in the reference design is meant to account for capacitive loading of the scope probe, which one presumably cannot avoid.  However, since the extra pole this creates is above the unity-gain bandwidth of LMP7704, this does not affect the phase margin of the part under actual unloaded conditions - see below.
