TLV2370: Saturation recovery time

Is there any guarantee about a minimal recovery time after saturation?
We are developing a product in which the design relies on a having a delay of at least 1μs.
On our prototype, the delay due to saturation recovery time is 2.5μs. This closely matches the simulation.
Will this delay always be there if the opamp is saturated? In what range can we expect this delay to be?

    Hi Joost,

    since there's no specification in the datasheet about the output saturation recovery time and since the recovery time depends on very many factors, it's difficult to give an answer.

    If the input signal and anything else in the circuit is always exactly the same, even the chip temperature, then there's a certain chance that the recovery time will not differ all too much.

    But keep in mind that the saturation recovery time may also depend on how long the output is already trapped in saturation. If the saturation lasts only for a short duration and the output stage and driver stages aren't fully saturated, the output may leave the saturation earlier as if the output is trapped in saturation for a longer period and the output stage and driver stages are fully saturated. So, if you input signal will differ in how long the output is trapped in saturation, then you cannot assume a guaranteed minimum recovery time.

    I would add an additional delay stage, at the input and/or the output of OPAmp. Eventually a simple RC low pass filter may add sufficient extra delay?

    Hi Joost,

    In addition to Kai's comments, we do not typically provide minimum and maximum values for overload recovery when specified. It is a more robust design to specify delays around RC circuits, as you can more tightly control the tolerances.
