AMC1200: Surge test issue

Part Number: AMC1200

Hi Team:

My customer use AMC1200BDUB and found the 3KV Surge test will record as C level , it must need manual reset.

So customer trying to add 100Ω in R104 place to fix this,  if there any effort for the equivalent input circuit or do you have some comments to improve the surge test ?

 tks again

  • Hi Allen,

what Surge testing are we talking about? What standard? Why 3kV and not 2kV? Where do you apply the 3kV Surge? Between the inputs BATV1+ and BATV1-? Or across the barrier of AMC1200? If so, how do you apply the Surge? Has chosing R104=100R proven to make the Surge test pass? Or do you just assume this?

Please give way more details on the Surge testing and answer the above questions.

    Kai

  • Hi Kai:

tks for your comments. I will try more further for these test details. but regarding to the R104= 100R, this can help customer pass their test.

  • Hi Allen,

In addition to Kai's comments: we test surge by shorting the high side pins and low side pins, then applying the surge waveform across the isolation barrier.

I see that there are several diodes and filters on the inputs, I do not recommend using all of these components as they can introduce additional error into the measurement due to leakages and they may cause the surge waveform to reach different pins at different times. I recommend to remove diodes (DV3, E5, E8)

Figure 32. in the datasheet provides a recommended schematic. I recommend reducing the size of the common-mode filter capacitors (C60, C61) to be at least 10-20x smaller than the differential capacitor (C19).

How is the high side supply being generated? Net 5V_G?
