Current sensing IC recommendation inquiry.

Hi, TI expert.

There is a current sensing IC inquiry from a customer.

1. Applied product: Induction electric range

2. Inverter Circuit Configuration
1) Half bridge configuration
2) Inquiry and usage of IC for measuring current (Max16A) generated between input power supply and low side IGBT

Please recommend a current sensing IC that can replace the measurement method using shunt resistance and Amp in general.

Hello Grady,

Normally for switching applications we recommend the INA241 but since this is low side I would recommend the INA296. You need to make sure the VCM range is not violated. The reason I recommend the INA296 is due to the VCM range and the high speed to recover from any switching noise.

I have an additional question.

It is common to use a shunt resistor for current sensing, but the customer inquired about an IC capable of current sensing without using a shunt resistor.

In the case of the INA296 it looks like you need to use a shunt resistor. Is that right?

Is there an IC that can do current sensing without using a shunt resistor?

Hello Grady,

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Please see the TMCS110X family. There is still are resistance between the connection as the current runs the the part and the metal is resistive.
