LM393A: Datasheet open-drain vs open-collector

Part Number: LM393A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM393

Hello,

I see the datasheet for LM393ADGKR lists this as an "open-drain". Given that this is a transistor is this correct or is it a typo and should say "open-collector"?

I'm hoping to get some clarification on how TI defines open-drain.

  • Hello Kyle,

We define it just like the rest of the industry...

"Open Collector" refers to bipolar (BJT) output transistors - such as the LM393.

"Open Drain" refers to MOSFET output devices, such as the TLC or LMC series.

They are essentially the same as far as the customer use.

It is a cut-and paste typo. It should say "open collector". We'll fix that in the next revision. Thanks for calling it to our attention!
