TLV3502: Comparison with LT1720

Part Number: TLV3502
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV3501, TLV3604

TLV3502 seems to have very low input bias and offset current in pA at low propogation delay at 4.5ns.I presume that the input pin is connected to CMOS. LT1720 from linear technology with similiar config has 2uA bias current and price is also higher than TLV3502. I couldn't see many change in performance parameters except supply voltage which is little bit more than TLV.Since for my application I need very low bias current,I chose this comparator. My application requires TLV3502 to work as fast as 50ns since my input resets every 50ns.Can it work under such conditions?.Moreover, does TI provide any comparator with LVDS output at 1-5ns switch time and minimum bias current in pA-nA than in uA.

  • Hi Anirudh,

Thanks for reaching out. 50 ns period signal should be good for TLV3501.

Our high speed comparators with LVDS outputs that we have to offer at 800 ps prop delay would be our TLV3604/5 family: TLV3604 data sheet, product information and support | TI.com. However, they would not meet your requirements of pA-nA of bias current. Can you tell me more about your application and need for low input bias current?

  • Hi Chi,

Thank you so much for your reply. Our application is active quenching circuit for avalanche photodiode. The current flowing through photodiode is around 50nA to 10uA.The load resistor in series act as passive quenching element but turn off quench time is high for resistor. So we use a small sense resistor in same chain as load resistor to detect avalanche using comparator and use FPGA to turn on a separate quench signal to turn-off diode faster. The input to FPGA is LVDS.That is why we need faster low input bias comparator ( Avalanche pulses come in ps to ns interval). That is why we need faster comparator also.

    Thank you
