INA280: Bipolar current sense amplifier selection

Hi Experts,

Good day.

We are trying to design a current sense circuit and we have a question about your Analog Current Sense amplifiers. Trying to measure the current flowing through a 1 Ohm resistor which is in series with a resistive load as well as a TEC. The circuit is being powered off of a +/-10V DAC output. I have +8V and -8V supplies to power a current sense amp from, but all datasheets show the amplifiers having a V+ and GND terminal. We really need the output to be bipolar because the circuit it feeds into is expecting a voltage in the range of +/-8V.

Question:
Can we use one of your current sense amplifiers like the INA280 and instead of using V+ and GND, use V+ and V- (+/-8V) as supplies? If not, are there any products that might suit our needs?

    Our bidirectional CSAs are can provide the outputs that you are looking for here. If you use -8V as the ground reference and connect the actual GND to the REF pin(s) the output will be 0±8V. The biggest design requirement you will need to abide by is that you will need to use a bidirectional chip capable of using 16V across the supply pins. The INA280 is not a bidirectional chip, so any current flowing backwards through the sense resistor (or 0 current) will be read at the ground level (-8V in your case). I would recommend using the INA296/INA241 for your application as the recommended operating range includes up to 20V on the supply pin.
