Hello everyone,

I'm developing a new device and I'm going to design a regulated voltage source that can be adjusted between -5V and +5V and can provide up to 50mA of current. Can I use OPA2197 in the output layer of this voltage source? When I examined its datasheet, it was stated that the short circuit current was +-65mA. Can I get 50mA current continuously from the output of this opamp?

Figures 14 and 15 show the typical output behaviour:

If you want to get 50 mA near the rails, you need a device with a much higher short-circuit current. But even the ALM2403-Q1 has a voltage drop of 0.5 V at 50 mA; if you want to get 50 mA at ±5 V, you need to use larger supply voltages.

Thanks for your reply. According to the graph, I think I will not have any problems if I supply it with +-9V.
