THS6222: Can THS6222 use single ended output

Part Number: THS6222

Hi TI

Can THS6222 use single ended output,The customer actually tested that sending and receiving both use the same single ended design, which allows for normal sending and receiving. However, we are not sure if there are any potential risks in using this method. Please help provide suggestions. Thank you.

The current design of single ended output is as follows:

  • Hi Rain,

You *can* use the THS6222 output single-ended but if you do so you should match the load between the two outputs. For example if that black box has a 50ohm input-impedance, then you should put 50ohms to ground on the other output to keep the outputs balanced. Putting the output not being used straight to ground like that can cause problems.

    i.e. something like this:

However you will get much worse distortion performance, much worse noise, worse voltage swing when not using the differential capabilities, and worse CMRR effects when doing this. It would be much preferable to use a transformer to convert the output to single-ended if that is what you need.

i.e. tie one side of the transformer to ground like so:

    Thanks,

    Evan
