INA128: Temperature Related Performance

Part Number: INA128
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA828, INA818, INA333, INA333-HT,

The INA128U Part is currently unavailable, INA128HD is available but has lesser performance in electrical parameters, such as lower CMRR and higher Input Bias Current.

The INA128U has an operating temperature limited to -40 C to +85C. Would the performance within these  temperature ranges be equivalent for the INA128U and the INA128HD?

  • Hi Erin,

Would the performance within these  temperature ranges be equivalent for the INA128U and the INA128HD?

I do not see INA128HD markings. I think that you meant to write as INA128UA SOIC-8 package (D is the package drawing letter). INA128U is higher grade than INA128UA. The internal IC designs are identical, so is the temperature operating ranges. Again, the only differences are INA128U is higher grade than INA128UA part, and the differences in performances are specified in the datasheet.

The following instrumentation amplifiers (IAs) are equivalent and better than INA128U. These parts are pin-to-pin compatible in identical SOIC-8 package. You may replace INA128U without too much hassle. If you select INA333, you have to change the gain resistor, but INA818 and INA828 are direct replacement without changing the IA's gain resistor, and it is cheaper and higher in performance.

  • INA128HD is different from the INA128U family. The link for the INA128HD is below:

My inital question was asking if there are any differences in performance between INA128HD and INA128U within the temperature range of -40 C and +85 C.

  • Hi Erin,

I am confused with INA128HD from INA128U/UA,  which INA128-HT is high temperature version of INA128U. The part number from the catalog and the datasheet are different. For instance, INA333 also has high temperature version as INA333-HT, but these are sold and listed as different categories in TI E-store.

Would the performance within these  temperature ranges be equivalent for the INA128U and the INA128HD?

The performance of INA128U and INA128-HT should be similar. I am fairly sure that these are the same Si die design, but INA128-HT is encapsulated in high temperature package.

INA128HD is available but has lesser performance in electrical parameters, such as lower CMRR and higher Input Bias Current.

In INA128-HT's datasheet, the CMRR and Ibias are specified over the wider temperature range ( -55C to 125C), and one column is specified CMRR and Ibias at Tamb = 175C only. The CMRR and Ibias current will vary at different operating temperature.

In INA128U/UA, the CMRR and Ibias are specified at Tamb = 25C in the datasheet, so these are not apple to apple comparisons. However, INA128-HT is screened, tested and guaranteed from the specified operating temperature range (likely higher grade and further screened from INA128U grade). At room temperature, INA128-HT should have the equivalent performance as in INA128U/UA.
