THS6182: Amplifier Heat issue

Part Number: THS6182

Hi,

I am using THS6182 IC as a normal amplifier with Non inverting configuration. I have connected Bias 1, bias 2 and Iadj pins to GND. I am facing heating problem when switched ON even with no Load connected. The IC is supposed to drive upto 0.5A load current. I also tried to connect these pins to VCC but no change.

Please suggest any solution.

Thanks and Regards,

Kumar

  • Hi Kumar,

The THS6182's thermal performance is very dependent on external factors such as the design of the board. Could you provide a layout of the board you are using as well as a possible schematic? This will help us narrow down where the issue might be coming from.

  • Hi Ignacio,

Here is the schematic and layout file.

  • Hi Kumar,

After seeing your layout, for high power dissipation scenarios, we do recommend the THS6182 in one of our PowerPAD packages, as this helps dissipate heat more efficiently. However, as you mentioned even when the device is not connected to a load you are seeing this extreme heat, which should not be happening. If you set the inputs to the device to 0V, could you probe the output and see what voltage you are seeing?

    Best Regards,
